When you think, “family pictures,” you don’t think, “Gee whiz, that sounds like a blast of a time!” I am a photographer and there is nothing I hate more than being in pictures.
Typically, they happen to fall on the one day of the year that everything goes wrong— like your kid is sick, your husband has lost all ability to do anything but sit on his ass and ask you where his socks are that you set out so he wouldn’t miss them and of course, someone left the car on empty and you have to stop for gas or you will never make it. “GET IN THE CAR NOW OR SO HELP ME GOD!”
It’s like clockwork. Every single time. I’ve been doing this for ten years, I know how it goes.
I can’t control the mayhem that precedes your session, but I can make sure that from the second you get out of the car (assuming no one was murdered along the way)… everything else will be taken care of.
I am a control freak and I promise you, in this situation, that’s great news. I want to take the pressure off you— and put all of it on me. It sounds stupid— I want to capture your family looking their happiest, but even more so, I want to provide you an experience that actually makes you happy when you look back on it. Could you even imagine? Looking back on family pictures and it being a memory you cherish… that’s my goal.
All you have to do is enjoy these people you call your family and try not to kill them.

One year, my parents booked family pictures and we all had to wear our gymnastics stuff and to this day, it’s one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever done— oh, and it’s the first thing you see when you walk in their front-door. It was always fun bringing girls I liked over for the first time. I don’t want that for you…. or I guess, for your kids.
We want to give you photos that you (and your kids) love to see on your walls— full of laughter, playing, connection and being freaking beautiful through all of it. Even more than that— I want to create an experience that you guys can actually look back on and say, “Remember how fun that was?”

ARE YOU THE RIGHT FIT FOR MY FAMILY?
IS THAT A WEIRD QUESTION TO ASK?
Not a weird question at all. I mean, in all reality, I am the one who wrote these questions, so I must think it’s an important one to consider.
I’m not overly professional. If I’m being super honest, I don’t think of this relationship as one between business-owner and clientele— I see it as a friendship. Call me corny, but photography is a pretty intimate thing. For me to do my job to the best of its abilities, I have to like you and you have to like me. And if we’re being real, I don’t have the easiest personality— I am loud, inappropriate, attention-hungry and a complete control freak.
I love bad kids (believe me when I tell you i’ve seen it all), I love sweet kids, I love loud kids and I love quiet kids… but it’s the kids who act like they’ve never seen the light of day or a stranger before, that don’t like me. I can be a bit much.
I also don’t like dads who think they are the king of the castle and who don’t do shit around the house or ever play with their kids. That’s just a big no from me.
To be frank, I am not for everyone. I purposely make this site such a representation of who I am, because I would rather you discover you hate me on the internet than discover you hate me in the middle of your session.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM A TYPICAL SHOOT WITH YOU?
YOU ACT LIKE IT’S GREAT, BUT IS IT REALLY?
A LOT OF SCREAMING.
But, not the same kinda screaming you’re used to at family pictures. I scream A LOT. I've been known to tell kids that I will cut off their butts and throw them in the trash can. I like to joke, I like to have fun, but I also like to be in charge— it sounds like a weird mix, but I feel like I’ve found the perfect balance. I have two main goals at family sessions: to capture your family at their happiest (hence, the laughing and jokes) but I also want to photograph you in your absolute best light on your absolute best day. This means I am watching those double chins and posing you and moving you in ways that will best flatter you— because at the end of the day, we all want to make the people we went to high school with jealous of how good we look.
A session with me includes those super boring pictures of everyone smiling and looking at the camera— because I feel like, we need those in life, but pretty quickly, it turns into a lot of playing and games.
Personal boundaries do not exist with me. I am a Disneyland tourist during sessions.

HOW SHOULD I GET THOSE TO YOU?
Just gonna rip the band-aid off. I’m not really an ideas kinda guy.
I don’t like signs and ill-fitting shirts that distinguish who is who… I assume if anyone is looking at these pictures, they know Ben is a big brother, maybe a little more mystery and a lot less of whatever that is.
I just want to capture you guys being a family. And laughing. And playing. And not a giant quote wood board you just picked up from Hobby Lobby with your 40% off coupon.

DO WE CHOOSE OUR LOCATION, OR DO YOU?
We handle everything. We have been doing this for ten years. we’ve driven everywhere, we’ve shot in every location, we’ve seen every cactus, boulder, open field, tree, building, etc… and what I have found over those 10 years: location should help to bring focus to you not take focus away from you.
We cater our location to you and your shoot. We choose location based off your outfits, to help give you the most cohesive look to your shoot. My goal is to not to only give you the best pictures you’ve ever had, but also the best experience you’ve ever had.

THIS IS LITERALLY THE WORST PART OF TAKING PICTURES EACH YEAR.

This is one of the biggest stressors when it comes to family pictures— you want to look good, but pain is beauty. Styling is a really big part of our photography process— my biggest inspiration in photography has always been “fashion,” so naturally, clothes mean a lot to me.
BUT, we also want this process to be painless and stress-free for you. From beginning to end, we want you to feel taken care of.

I know. Some people need EXACT numbers.
But, I can’t give it to you. Every family is different. Every experience is different. Every expression is different. Here is what I can say: I don’t leave stuff out. If we did something, it’s going to be in there. I include images that have very small differences, because if there is one thing I have learned over the past 10 years… it’s that MY favorite and YOUR favorite never align, so I include a lot.
